Team 8232 is based in Lafayette and West Lafayette, Indiana, but we also have some members located in Terre Haute, Indiana, and Carmel, Indiana. Seven of our twelve members are inexperienced in the FIRST program, making us a rookie team this year.
My name is Liz and I am the president of Girl Gang for the 2020 season! I have been involved in robotics since I was 13 and this will be my fourth year in FRC. My family started this team in our garage to promote young women of all personalities and career interests to grow into valuable contributors to the workforce. This team is important to me because it is a close knit group of amazing ladies who are going to conquer the world together! Breaking gender stereotypes has always been a high priority for me. I played tackle football on a “boys” team for three years and am currently the only female working in the Safety section at Subaru of Indiana Automotive through a cooperative education course. I was recently accepted into Purdue University and plan on majoring in Industrial Management as a pre-law degree with a long term goal of becoming a corporate lawyer for a manufacturing company.
Vice President of Business
My name is Devon, and I am thrilled to be the business lead for FRC 8232 this season! I have been involved in FIRST since I was nine. I competed with FLL 100 Team Storm for six years, and mentored them for another two years while also competing on my community’s FRC team. At the 2015 FIRST LEGO League Global Innovation Award, I was inducted as a FIRST Global Innovation Ambassador, and I have been advocating for girls ever since. Female empowerment is important to me, and I eagerly take advantage of opportunities to engage girls in an effort to get them excited about STEM, whether that is at an outreach event, or mentoring the young girls on my former FLL team. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Girl Gang and work with this amazing group of women. I’m a senior in high school, and I plan to major in communications, and I hope to one day do STEM advocacy work while continuing to serve the FIRST community as a mentor.
Vice President of Tech
Hey I’m Maia and I’m tech lead on Girl Gang. I’m a senior at Harrison High School and I have been heavily involved with band throughout my career. This is my first year with FRC. When I first joined I knew nothing about robotics, I just knew I wanted to be a part of a team of ambitious girls who want to break the gender stereotypes. I am attending Purdue University in the fall for management but after joining Girl Gang, and a slight push from our lead mentor, I’m considering switching to polytechnic. I do plan on mentoring the team throughout college. I’m thankful for the opportunity to be on Girl Gang and for every opportunity to learn and grow on such an amazing team :)
